Written In Stone: Chapter One was developed as a self-sponsored capstone exhibition by Ebube Maduka Ugwu at Delaware State University. The exhibition introduced a growing creative series focused on American history, symbolism, visual identity, and cultural storytelling through four bodies of work: Icon, Chaos, Trophy, and Royal.

The Icon Series
Icons reimagined through portraiture, symbolism, and cultural reflection.
A portrait exhibition of pivotal and historically iconic figures who shaped American history, culture, and public imagination. Through portraiture, symbolism, and reinterpretation, the series examines how icons are remembered, questioned, and transformed over time. Each work invites the viewer to look beyond legacy and consider the human force behind the image.
The Chaos Series
Abstract and representative pieces inspired by the concept of chaos
A visual exhibition of instinct, conflict, and untamed energy expressed through explosive color, fragmented forms, and primal symbolism. The Chaos Series examines the tension between control and disorder, revealing moments of aggression, vulnerability, transformation, and survival. Each work invites the viewer to confront chaos as destruction and a force of change.
The Trophy Series
Authentic hand made symbols of victory, legacy, struggle, and cultural achievement.
A sculptural exploration of recognition, power, and earned distinction. Through championship-inspired forms, engraved symbolism, and cultural references, the Trophy Series examines how achievement is represented, awarded, and remembered. Each work transforms the trophy from a prize into a visual record of struggle, identity, legacy, and collective pride.
The Royal Series
Student leaders elevated as symbols of character, service, and institutional pride.
A portrait series honoring student representatives selected by their peers to embody the values of Delaware State University. Through regal symbolism, formal portraiture, and contemporary styling, the Royal Series presents each subject as a model of character, leadership, service, and achievement. Together, the works celebrate a tradition of student distinction and the individuals entrusted to represent their university community.
Organizing my Exhibition
Building the structure behind my first public showcase
This project was my first opportunity to bring my creative work into public view. From planning timelines to shaping the exhibition layout, every decision required intention, organization, and attention to detail. What began as a creative challenge became a defining lesson in execution, presentation, and storytelling.
